The Flow

Sometimes things just seem to flow. Prayer. Songs. Actions. Words. Writing. Other times, usually out of a place of performance, things just don’t move. In those circumstances I often get discouraged and try to avoid my mess altogether. That tends to produce resentment over failed ideas or the havoc I've made out of my own reasoning. What do I then do in those situations? Usually nothing. Eventually I give it to the Lord and hope and pray that the deep feelings I have of self-doubt and worry will leave. He then works it in my favor and does the unexpected with those things. But I’ve come to realize it’s not the lack of flow. It’s my lack of full dedication to God. What would it look like if instead of solving problems I created from ideas God gave me, I immediately give the ideas back to Him. What would things look like if I dedicated my ideas to Him the moment He gave them to me? Perfection in this area seems unattainable because as humans we want portions of the glory and praise. I wonder, in the times where things don’t “flow” how can we make it do so. The answer is clear: Deny yourself.

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23

To fully go after Jesus is to neglect all forms of yourself. That includes selfish thinking. We are supposed to carry our cross every day and wholly run after our Savior. How can we do that if we are too focused on reaching goals that we were never meant to reach? From the love of the Father things flow, not the other way around.

Often the best moments with Jesus are the ones unplanned. To know God, is to crave more of Him. Just a taste can transform generations. I challenge you to let go of the standards you've placed on yourself based on who others say you are. Ask the one who has known you from the beginning. He has more thoughts for your well being than grains of sand, what a lovely image :). He didn't want you on earth to do good things for Him. He wanted you here so He could know you, and you, Him. Out of that place the flow appears and His Voice is heard. Deny yourself, daughter.

“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!

How great is the sum of them!

If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;

When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139: 17-18

SONG FOR TODAY:

Prayers always.

💛 Kate
