Weight of Words

The urge to write just to write is an internal battle. Realistically, God has shown me my passion and love for words. Whether in songs, stories, or sentences- great beauty can be found in articulation. God loves words. His Words hold power. They give life. They create. When He created in the beginning it was the exhaled sound of his breath that uttered, “Let there be light.” And light came.

Years ago I began uploading posts onto this site. My intentions weren’t solely to see Jesus glorified. My young teenage heart was desiring something deeper with my Lord. By His gracious love, He drew me in. :’)

“'Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”James 4:8

What does it look like to draw near? It looks like approaching. It looks like locking eyes and coming close. It looks like facing the uncomfortable and committing to intimacy. When we approach Him, He holds close. He is a God who commits His entirety over to His Bride. Cleansing, purification, and consecration are what He deserves. I can’t become clean on my own. The blood of Jesus has washed ALL stains away. But I can commit myself to purity. I can commit myself to holiness by following His Word and not the world. A large way this is displayed is through the words I use.

'But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. '

James 3:8-9

James says here the tongue is an unruly EVIL, full of deadly poison. Poison kills. The weight of the words we use tends to not be as heavy as it ought. God’s words bring life, ours often bring death. With our tongue we can deny intimacy and hurt those Jesus died for.

“Therefore, putting away lying, “ Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. “Ephesians 4:25

'Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. ' Ephesians 4:29

'But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. ' II Timothy 2:16

Intentionality with words is necessary for Godliness. Our God is intentional, caring, and choice with His words. His creativity was brought to life through them. What if poor stewardship with words is inhibiting us from seeing the blossom of our God-given creativity? What if the heaviness in our relationships is surrounded by slanderous, unnecessary, and negative words?

As humans, may we reflect our Maker by putting aside our fleshly desires and temptations, and devoting ourselves to purity of life and word to Him. With our lips we praise Him. With our lips we exalt Him. May our same lips edify His creation and bring honor to Him no matter the distress, circumstance, or irritation. Definitely not easy, but with God- ALL things are possible.

What a glorious King Jesus is. Prayers over you,

Kate
